January 2023 Updates

The Newton Literacy Collaborative meets regularly with Newton Public Schools' central office leadership to discuss literacy in our schools.

Below are a few key updates:

• NPS will pilot 3 DESE-approved literacy curricula, as early as mid-March 2023. They are Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA), EL Education, and Wit & Wisdom.

• NPS is continuing the Fountas & Pinnell pilot initiated in fall 2022.

• A plan for evaluating and comparing piloted programs is in development.
